2008 Topper Worlds winner Elliott Hanson becomes a double World Champion!
As competitors for the International Topper World Championships 2022 gathered in Riva del Garda, 2008 Topper World Champion and Toyko 2020 Olympian Elliott Hanson was celebrating his second world championship title, this time in the prestigious International 5.5 m class. Annie Lush was also racing in the 5.5m Worlds and caught up with Elliott and asked him for his top tips and advice for racing on Lake Garda...
Elliot was recently asked to step up from bowman to helm at the 5.5m Keelboat World Championships in Hankø, Norway, whilst taking time out from his ILCA 7 campaign after Tokyo 2020, and took to driving the big keelboat straight away. The crew of Elliot, Andrew Palfrey and Sam Haines came from behind in the first race after being squeezed out at the start to sail through the fleet and take the win.
The team won the World title by winning both races on the final day. In fact, the crew won both the Scandinavian Gold Cup held just prior to the Worlds and the World Championship, making history as the first British boat to win either event.
Where will the 2022 International Topper World Champions' sailing careers take them in years to come!?
